Virginia Region II educators invited to pre-register for Teacher Night
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will host its annual Teacher Night on Thursday, April 3, 2025, for Virginia Region II elementary and middle school physical science teachers.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore more than 50 classroom activities led by fellow educators and Jefferson Lab Science Activities for Teachers (JSAT) participants. JSAT, a 16-week program funded by the Jefferson Science Associates Initiatives Fund and hosted by Jefferson Lab, provides educators with hands-on training and classroom-ready science lessons.
These engaging lessons align with the Virginia Standards of Learning and cover various physical science concepts such as atomic theory, renewable energy, exothermic reactions, friction, energy conservation, earth resources, weather and electricity.
Teachers can conduct experiments and demonstrations, receive valuable handouts for easy classroom implementation, and connect with peers to exchange innovative ideas. Attendees can also earn one recertification point and have a chance to win door prizes.
"This event is all about sharing creative and practical ways to make science engaging for students," said Lisa Surles-Law, Jefferson Lab Science Education manager. "Teachers bring their experience and enthusiasm, and we're excited to provide resources they can take back to their classrooms."
Teacher Night also provides educators the opportunity to connect with Jefferson Lab Science Education professionals and stay informed about future professional development programs that can enhance their classrooms and STEM curriculum.
